u.s. drone? >> first of all, the u.s. navy has strongly denied it has lost any of the drones in question. the scan eagle drones. now, navy officials admit they look at this iranian video and say, that is a scan eagle. quite frankly a scan eagle drone are very common there in the persian gulf. a number of persian gulf countries own them. there's indication that iran stole or purchased under the table a scan eagle drone from one of the gulf state nations. they are insisting this is not a u.s. navy scan eagle drone. that iranian didn't capture a drone and write it off as iranian propoganda. >> up next, where is governor jan brewer? she's been out of state for nearly a week. what some are calling a mysterious work trip. why her own spokesperson says he can't disclose where she is. plus, governors are warnings that a failure to reach a deal on the fiscal cliff could mean havoc for state economies. they're telling congress to get together and get something done. i'll talk with two governors who met the president just a few hours ago, but first in today's money minute, here's a look at

re-elected. >>> turning to overseas news from afghanistan. one of our country's greatest, a navy s.e.a.l. has died from his wounds after helping successfully rescue an american hostage that was being held by the taliban. this all happened over the weekend during an operation to save dr. phillip joseph who was kidnapped by the taliban last week. the military raid was ordered after intelligence indicated the doctor was in imminent danger. secretary of defense leon panetta issued a statement last night commenting the special forces that carried out the raid. he said he was deeply saddened by the soldier's death whose name has not yet been released. >>> now to the ongoing crisis in syria. the civil war now spilling over the border into lebanon where at least 17 people were killed in recent clashes between supporters and opponents of president assad. this as syrian rebels continue to make advances continuing much of the countryside and the open road. richard engel amazingly made his way inside syria and filed this report just outside of the nation's largest city, aleppo. >> reporter:

this iranian claim that they captured a small u.s. drone, u.s. navy, i know, has already said all unmanned air vehicles have been accounted for that are operating in the middle east region. are you hearing anything different? what could iran think it has that it doesn't or is it another country's drone? >> reporter: if you look at iran's video, it is a scan eagle drone which, quite frankly, sort of like honda civics. everybody has one. you can buy them pretty much on the open market. the belief is that they got it from the persian gulf state, united emirates, which have scan eagle drones like the u.s. navy does. but it's believe d that the iranians may have managed to steal one disassembled or someone even in that government under the table sold them one. they do acknowledge it looks like a scan eagle but it's not american. and they believe the iranians simply somehow got it off the shelf. this is not top shelf. that is horse and buggy technology. >> not even honda civic. all right, all right, jim miklaszewski, at the pentagon this morning. thank you, sir. >>> up next, cliff count

over the persian gulf. the very powerful navy chief of the revolutionary guard said iran used jamming systems to bring down the drone which had taken off from usa aircraft carrier in the region and was on a reconnaissance mission gathering data over iran and state tv showed two revolutionary guard commanders expecting what seems to be an impact scaneagle drone in front of a huge map of the persian gulf and hon it written, we will trammell america under our feet. as you said the u.s. denies any drone had gone missing but we had a similar incident last year where iran had jammed and downed a u.s. drone in the same region. the u.s. denied a drone had been down. after a few days they admitted the drone had been downed by the iranians and asked for it back. the iranians wouldn't give the drone back, but they said that they would make a model of it and send it to the united states. they put that model for sale in iran which we managed to get a copy of, to much fanfare. this was on sale all over iran last year. we might see another copy of it soon if it really is a u.s. drone they caught. >>
